Trusting - Through All Ages

Finally, after 1-2 years of promises, Trustings' EP is here. Totally worth the wait.

Trusting is a Marcali based hardcore band. Very young guys with a lot of fresh power. I'm not really into modern harcore music but they are pretty good in live and finally we can listen them in our mp3 players. They know what they want to do and they do it with full force. This is the point. That's why I can't not-to-love this record. This dark but positive energy throught their negative view of the world gives it a charm, a charm which I can't and I don't want to deny. One negative thing: I don't really like the speech part on the beginning of the album. Not a big deal. It's a great record and you should listen it.
As I mentioned we had to wait a lot for Trustings' debut stuff. About two years ago they recorded something - as I remember - but they weren't satisfied with the sound quality and all the songs. It totally worth the wait -for them too-, this EP has awesome sound quality and I'm almost hundred percent sure that they are satisfied now. They should be.
If some bands in the scene would be such an attitude like this guys..

Liberal Youth - Mindenki nézi, senki sem látja (2011)

Ivans' first post about his homies, Liberal Youth.

As I know Liberal Youth wasn’t here before, so first of all I should write some info about them: The band was formed in 1995 at Szombathely and they are still one of the most significant old school hardcore bands of the SCHC community. They broke up at 1999 but after couple of years of years they reformed with some new members. We had to wait for 6 years for this new record which was released in the end of 2011 with 9 new songs. The sound quality has a lot of critisicm (rehearsal room record) but I think it’s okay and it's fits to the genre. The bigger problem for me are the songs. They’re not as good as the last record called „Pénzért haszonért”. Of course the new record also include some great songs, like „Senkitol nem kell semmi” , „Bármit teszel” or „Ki a mélybol” and you can find punkish, harder hardcore songs and fastcore song as well, so this isn't a boring stuff, just simply not as good as the last one. You should see them live, because the records can’t represent the real power of Liberal Youth.
Ps: I miss the old drummer, Kei from the band who is probably th ebest drummer of hungary.

Cvlt of Grace - S/T

Brand new band from South-West Hungary.

As I know this band was formed by the members of New Direction, a band which mostly played covers of older hardcore bands' songs. Honestly, when I heard about Cvlt of Grace first time and I watched their video I put them down as a hipster-screamo-hardcore band. Why hipster? Because of the word "cvlt" and the layout of their profile with those fucking triangles. I hope they won't draw upside-down crosses everywhere. I'm just fed up with these fashionable symbols. But their songs are good. Really. So much better than their "image". I hope they will drop this bullshit they built around themselves and they'll be just a great darkish hardcore band. They won't be my new favourite, but they've really exceeded my expactations.

PFA / New Dead Project split

PFA weekend continues.

Here is a split record with an another great hungarian band, New Dead Project. Released by the allmigthy Dzsukhell Rekords. This is an unusual record, that specializes in both bands put a long song on it.
PFA's "Oar" is one of their best songs from 2011 split sessions. A 9 minute long mix of fast trashpunk, mindfucker slow melodies, poppunk riffs, some old school black metal and cathartic heartbraker deep sounds. All the things which ones made PFA great so far.
New Dead Project is a Budapest based modern hardcore/punk band, they are really active members of the hungarian punk scene. With their song "Két nap az élet" (Life is two days) they found the way back to their old(er) sound, somewhere between the demo and the first full lenght. I liked these albums much more than the later/last one so I like this song as well. Nothing more but fine modern hardcore/punk from the heart.

PFA - A Cloud of Fat Insects EP

Prepare yourself for the PFA weekend. Firstly, here is their newest record, called "A Cloud of Fat Insects". It will be released on tape by Blastbead Worship.

PFA is a four-piece fast-punk band from Veszprém County (Budapest-based nowadays).
After a long time and a lot of split relesases finally they put out an EP. It isn't the usual thing: Besides the regular short songs here are two chaotic jams. Okay, they have some jams like these on their latest split records but I thought these are just some kind of jokes (you will see in the next posts). Maybe they are, but then it's too much. Even they aren't it's too much for me. So, I like PFA's angry and fast songs (and some mindfuckers from the slower ones). They have two on this tape, so it's worth to download.

Opus Null - Vas Népe

Opus Null returns with some fresh material. Is it good, is it as promising as the last demo? Will this open a new era to Hungarian punx? Let’s check it out!

So first of all, this is a homemade demo, totally DIY stuff - not the worst kind but not the best, you can hear it’s flaws, I think it’s also the fun part of it. But this flaw was already there at the first demo so right now, I dunno, it’s not that charming like it was. Don’t get me wrong, I still think it’s a pretty good demo, but it’s still just a demo, and I would really like to hear something cool from these guys cause they made some pretty decent punk music.
They have a great sense of balance too, cause bands like Opus Null like to identified them self as “counter-punks”. Most of these bands are influenced by Bucó and his bands like Gecizők, which is cool cause Bucó created something really unique with those bands in the beginning of 90s, but these “counter-punks” dudes usually just copying him, which we had to admit: it sucks ass. Buuuuut Opus Null did a great job, cause while you can hear some influences from bands like Kisangyal (also a really great band), they can still keep their original ideas and artistic forms, and that’s awesome!

Fuck, I almost forget about the cover: look at it! Now that's what I call a great cover art. I think I will submit to the cover art of year awards here in Heart-A-Tact.

So to be honest, there is nothing really ground breaking here, but that's okay cause it's still a pretty decent punk stuff. The only problem with this demo, which I already mention is that it’s still a demo. I would really like to see a great debut EP from Opus Null, so I have to ask: Where is it guys?

Rivers Run Dry - Songs from the split w/ BØREDØM

Hungarys' darkest band. Any argument is invalid.

This record isn't new, but somehow I forgot to post it. Okay, I just did not want to fuck up their money machine business with the vinyls, haha. So, Rivers Run Dry is really our darkest band, but they are nice guys anyway. They had some europe tours from squat to squat and they are awesome in live. They are the first so-called neocrust band in hungary as I know. I like to call it dark punk, just for being simple and because thier lovely D.I.Y. attitude. I remember when I listened to this vinyl first time. It was dark in my room and the first sounds made me goose bumps all over my body. During this my room was getting more dark, haha. So this record has this awesome dark athmosphere, you should try it. This 12" is relesed by Dzsukhell Records, which is runned by Rivers Run Dry members. Positive Mind - Demo II

An old school hardcore band bacame noisy. Exciting, isn't it?

I'm not really into traditional old schol hardcore bands, bacause usually their sound is to clean/chemically pure and the usual lyrics topics aren't fits for me. Positive Mind was one of these oshc bands I dont really listen to, but they are dudes so i liked them a bit. They did their work right, but not my style, you know. A week ago they had a show with their new singer and I was there. I was curious, because I knew the new singer guy, he singed well in a band called Think Again before (in their early years). Their show was great! The PA stuff was a little bit lame, so the vocal was noisy, the guitars had dirty sound and I liked it very much in that way. They lost their clean oshc sound and became a noisy hardcore band. And I'm glad because their new demo still sound like that, so maybe they will stay on this crusty, noisy way. Ohh, and the lyrics are so much better as well.

Fucked up teenage fun on the way!

These guys have fun during they singing about shitty things around us like ...fucked up kids with their problems. And they try to solve these problems with smoke weed, drink alcohol and skate all day or just ..solve them on the easiest ways. So this is a great record for house parties with your friends! Seriouly tough, they have a lot of meaningful things to say between the lines of the lyrics merged into this lovely teenage rebellion and fun. It really reminds of some of my favourite 80's punk bands' attitude.

Icaros is a new almost-allstar band from Budapest. This EP is their first release. What can i say? Fine record but it reminds me a Tragedy record I never heard so far. So if you listened to Tragedy before, you won't hear anything new. That's why it's just a "fine" record but not amazing or something like that. If you are into neo-crust/tragedy-crust let's give them a try. The songs are really well written anyway. Looking forward for the future releases.

Téveszme started as a teen punk band around 2004, but these days they've turned to something like metallic hardcorepunk. But their spirit and their attitude still remind me of true hardcore punk bands. There aren’t many things I hate more than metalcore and punk-called music with metal breakdowns, but fortunately their music doesn’t sound like those bands and there is something really cool in their determination. So, I like to listen with my headphones to their poetic, sentimental lyrics mixed with chaotic-but-well-written energetic music.

Bankrupt - Rewound

Yeah I know, elitist will throw me rocks because of this, but hey, fuck off! Bet you haven't heard Bankrupt since 2005, right? Neither I. Well, they have some surprises for us.

No bullshitting you, I didn't heard from this band for about six years now. That's a lot's of time but in my memory, this band lived like it was 2004 or 2005. Maybe I was wrong but as far as I remember, they played very generic music, like if they would came from epitaph or fatwreck from the late 90's. I dunno, but I don't even really care now, cause this EP, to be honest, pretty rad - or at least pretty decent.
I like the surf tone really lot, puts so much to this album. It's also cool that they didn't follow modern trends, to be sooooo lo-fi and shitty quality, but they could managed to stay sound like a real band and not to be an all-clear with over-triggered drums and stuff. Only the last song sound a bit too generic, but it's ok, it's only a four song EP, I think you really give a try to listening them.

This is a brand new release with really old songs, some of them are already two years old. That's the problem with this record. I mean this is the only problem, the record sessions are waaaay toooo old and almost everybody heard these songs via myspace or tumblr.
But if you haven't heard from this band before, well I have to tell you, this is the finest lo-fi surf-punk band that Hungary can offer you. And yeah, this is the only one too, but hey, fuck it, this record is good.

Padkarosda - Ékszer neked, vedd, edd

I like posting not well-known bands from the scene. Szati from A Párt showed me this little hidden gem a some month ago. It maybe has it's own flaws but I still found pleasure listening to Padkarosda.

It's always great to see when bands take influences from the past and their roots, especially when we are talking about Hungarian punk. Marina Revue is my favourite one, and this band probably take a lot of influence from them and it's good!
The singer's voice is like someone pointing a gun to his head but he still wanted to tell everyone to fuck off and eat shit, I love it! Meanwhile the guitars and the drum are not the best quality but it's still pretty good for a demo. The only problem is that you can not download this demo. Should I ask why? Should I care about it? Well fuck yes, cause they should allowed it us to download and listen a lot these tunes.

I've been keeping contact with Szati for a long time ago now, and since then we always shared our artistic shits with each-other, weather it's design, comics or music. When he first send the demos of his band I thought they are "cute" but that's all. Well, I have to change my ideas, cause their latest album gave me some surprises.

I've got the CD right here with me, it's got a really nice look, I love it. Clear and simply while a bit blurry and fuzzy at the same time, brilliant. But what about the music? Well I tell you, it's great. I know you can't believe me cause last time I saw this band I said they were bad but hey, it's good. I mean really, the quality and the songs, they are all good, and what is important: it's more then listenable! I enjoyed it listening their gloomy tunes.

So you like obscurity? Check this post out, it's ~~mainly~~ about Debt Trap ~~but I'll also mentioned another "band" later on~~.

Two dudes from The Tartuffe Plan are insane, they put out three REALLY LO-FI records in a few months since August I guess. If they would make a record session with a cassette-dictaphone, Youth Attack would definitely put out a 7" from it.
I would love to see them live, cause their records are really interesting. They aren't good yet, but they will. I mean they've got the attitude, the balls and the creativity to do it. Hope they will release a good record really soon. Without a Red Line Offside cover. Cause. The. Last. One. Was. Sucks. Ass.

Opus Null - Dagasztott Semmi demo

Let me introduce another obscure band, style and name from the hungarian punk scene: Opus Null

Yeah, their cover sucks ass, I know. I hate "minimalist" art, cause it's not art, it's nothing. But who the fuck cares about covers? Well ok, maybe I do but this is just a shitty punk blog, right? So let's move on to the music cause that's what matters.

Are you familiar with 80's hungarian punk? If no, it's your problem. If yes, then take the lyrics' style, bring it to a garage, add some synth and mix it with low-quality dictaphone, and tadaaaa, you get Opus Null.
To hipsters: yes, this is fucking lo-fi, not like your shitty "bedroom bands".
To punx: yes, it's nothing special but a pretty decent edition to the hungarian punk scene.
To everyone: yes, the quality not the best, tracks are slipping sometimes, but hey give it a try!

Honecker Bosszúja / Sírgondozók

Wow, this is some serious shit. I mean this IS THE SHIT! After my previous post I thought it might be cool to dig in Hungary's unknown punk bands and look what I found: Honecker Bosszúja!

These guys made the best album in 2011 so far! Nothing extraordinary but they are still one of the most unique band in Hungary. It's like mixing 80's punk lyrics and attitude with syth-pop and Joy Division and some coldwave. The whole picture from them are really bizarre. I mean literally, look at them: best promo pictures ever! But hey, I almost forget to mention they have the best live performance concept, they are usually playing in attics:

They also have another mentionable project called Sírgondozók. It's much darker then Honecker Bosszúja, I also prefer this one a bit more because the cold tone. They don't have any album to download, just this song on youtube to listen.
These two bands are from Salgótarján, a really isolated city (I was born and grew up there), and bands like them give back the romantic of the city really nicely. I could take some twist and craziness in their music like in Nervous Gender or Phaida, but fuck it: they are still good without it.

Los Vargitos - Alcohol Violence

This is a one man band, kind of "bedroom music", but not that you would really expect from that tag.

Los Vargitos operates with a tons of influences like black metal, punk and even some stoner elements - like QOTSA. Dávid, who is really Los Vargitos put out his first two songs EP a month ago, and it's really good. The first song kinda like mixing late 90's stoner shit with some dark tone and absurd lyrics; but then comes the second song, Trve Kvlt, Trve Glve - my favourite. It's a blast, it's a killer tune with true black metal punk blood in it's vein. Youth Attack should release this in a 7" or cassette tape, I swear.

Level Up! - Csak mész előre

To be honest, I don't really like this band. I don't hate it, and don't think it fucking sucks but... I dunno, i gave them a lot of try and a I still feel the same. You know what it is? Nothing.

But anyway, that's my opinion about Level Up!'s music, you should give them a try too! Brain Records, a fairly new DIY record label released their latest album on CD. It's pretty catchy, just look at the picture, right?
Anyway, the music is.. well... it is trying to be fast and straightforward hardcore. Uh, it is fast, and it's also straightforward in their own way but... I dunno, I miss something from the whole picture which I found in my previous post with Hold On Through All. I can not really explain what but something is still missing. Don't get me wrong, it's still a honest hardcore band with passionate and enthusiastic members, and they are getting better from every album to another but... I dunno.
But hey! YOU should give them a try, at least one listening, cause maybe the problem is with me.

Positvie mind, positive message, sometimes that's all we need. I remember the time when the scene was almost about this but now it's gone. I'm a bit sad about this but everything has to come to an end, but not for Hold On Through All!
This EP is out since march and nobody give a shit about it, why? It isn't that bad at all, in fact, it's pretty good.

Blackhour Glass - I

To be honest, I hate newschool stuff. In general. Some of them are great, but those were newschool when I was young and now, they are... midschool I guess? Like At The Drive-In, now that's the fucking deal. But you can't compare them to Swans and bands like them, right? And you shoudn't. I admit that I was wrong when I was trying to judge the Blackhour Glass the way like that. Wow, I always amused how asshole I can be.

Anyway, this record is really good, even if I hate how modern and sterile their sound is. At first it was like they want to lie to me: why? Why is this so clear? I want some fucking noise, away with sterile shitheads, I want the darkness of Joy Division and the Comsat Angels! Or the rawness from the Gang Of Four's Damage Goods EP!
But then I realized I was wrong. Wrong as much as I could. They are from "another school", they have different influences and they create something really unique. Even if their image look a bit like "dark-goth-hipsters", they have much more potential in their veins.
If you are not afraid from some fresh material, give it a try, their hungarian lyrics are really good. Try the song "Ázza"!

I'm still not really into one man bedroom bands, but this band is cool, because doesn't try to sound like "a-one-man-bedroom-band". As I heard, they'll become a full band with new members and they'll have a show this month. Hey, what's up everyone? It's me, Gäbriel, the new guy! I wanted to post something REALLY GREAT for my first post but I only got this shitty band. I mean my shitty band: Fuseism (ta-daaaa)

We play passionate "revolution summer like" punk with some shoegaze and noise elements, but I prefer to define our-self as "a punk band". We all share the passion of creating "things" in the band, from creating artworks through jamming to organizing shows. It's in our veins and we like it that way. We also like putting out records as fast as we can but take our time with the recording process at the same time, so we decide to switch from 6 or 8 songs albums to 2 songs EPs, and ta-daaa: here is our latest creaton.
